David Andersson

EDITOR & ANIMATOR

From a young age my parents would make me consume staples of pop media as preparation to enter adult society. From across the house they would  yell, “David! You need to turn on WGN right now! Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is on! It’s an important movie, you need to watch the whole thing!”

They would physically splice the tape in the VHS cassette to create censored, “family-friendly” versions of movies that were otherwise inappropriate for a child to watch.

What choice did I have? I was destined to work in film and video production.

I would join clubs and make movies with my friends using our parents’ consumer camcorders. Write stories and scripts and film and edit using janky 2000’s era shareware. At that time it was kind of a superpower to know how to produce videos that way. There were no Youtube tutorials or AI tools to teach anyone.

I knew I had to pursue more professional filmmaking and writing in college, even spending a summer working for a studio specializing in Straight-to-DVD knockoff movies featuring aging D-listers designed to trick your grandmother who didn’t know any better. I had finally broken into the industry.

It was only logical that the next step would be working for Vis-a-vis Creative. And I’ve been here ever since.

I don’t think my story is necessarily unique, but every day I feel grateful that I get to make a living and raise a family doing the kinds of things I was doing with my knucklehead friends for fun as kids.
