CREATIVE DIRECTOR & FOUNDER

I took the long way into design. Although I was drawn early to making and creating (and had a lot of encouragement), I resisted a creative career precisely because it was expected of me. When everyone assumed that’s where I’d land, I decided to do anything but.

I tried a lot of things: music theory, biology, literature, environmental science, special education — dropping in and out of school twice along the way. Eventually, I ran out of ways to avoid the obvious and the path showed up fast.

What I didn’t expect was how completely design relates to every other field of interest. It intersects with psychology, emotion, technology, communication and the world around us. Every curiosity I had became a dial to turn until the picture came into focus. Design lets me live in all of those worlds at once and untangle the relationships between them. It’s rarely easy but never boring, and it’s hard to imagine doing anything else.
